Tony’s Take: 👎 Farago has a major hard-on for the AMG GT. He’s owned an AMG GT and an AMG GT-C and lusts after the AMG GT Black Series (or the super-rare race-focused AMG GT Track Series). The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R Roadster is lower down on the original price-of-entry pecking order than the ferocious Black Series ($190k vs. $335k base) and a lot less rare (750 cars vs. 351). The Roaster’s not pulling premiums like the Black. For good reason?

AMG GT-R Roadster

With 577 hp under a hood longer than Nebraska, the GT-R Roadster is fast AF (0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds). On anything less than glassy smooth roads, its stiff suspension is jarring. On bumpy, broken or wet roads it’s notoriously nervous – almost as unforgiving as my ex-wife. In short, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT-R is not a daily driver like the hard-charging AMG GT-C Roadster. Nor is the GT-R Roadster – or any convertible – ideal for track work.

Visually, the AMG GT-Roadster is a damn sexy be-winged active aero collector car. I like this example’s AMG Green Hell Magno Paint (whose name refers to the Nürburgring and not the rainforest-based video game). I’m less impressed by its lack of options (e.g., ceramic brakes and carbon fiber exterior embellishment). A white 2022 GT-R Roadster with an equally stingy sticker and 250 miles on the clock did all of $196k. This one should hammer for almost but not quite as much moola. Downside: a rare but over-cooked concoction. More covetable AMG GT’s are out there, somewhere.
