For Sale – 1987 Porsche 930 Turbo Coupe 12k miles

Tony’s Take: According to Motors, Megabytes & Mods, the Porsche 930 Turbo is “the world’s most iconic car.” It’s easy to understand why the YouTube pistonheads came to that conclusion. Not only is the ’87 Turbo on display here the penultimate perfectly-proportioned Porsche, it’s also the driver’s car. A short-wheelbase, here-comes-the-power! sports car that demands and rewards respect in equal measure.

Of course, not all 930’s are created equal. I recently did an auction prediction on a seemingly identical 1987 930 Turbo. Big diff. “Porsche of Nashville modified the car, installing a Fabspeed stainless steel exhaust and sport headers, a K27 Turbo and a long-neck intercooler. Great for performance, lousy for collectors.”

This car, the one you see here, is a time capsule. Sure it’s the same color exterior – Guard’s Red. But it’s all original, better color combo – numbers matching and documented. It’s just had a major service: $12k. And here’s the kicker: it’s got a third of the miles on the clock – 12,661 from new.

But wait! There’s more! The 930 was stored in a climate controlled environment throughout its lifetime. As a result, all the rubber molding is in perfect condition (ask a restoration expert how likely that is).

Autocheck shows two – count ’em two – owners and actual miles, yielding a highest score of 85. Those are the highlights. Here’s the full sales copy from a previous auction.

This stunning Guards Red (027) Turbo Coupe, with a sunroof 12661 miles from new, appears as pristine as the day it left the factory in December 1986. It was delivered new to Jack Daniels Motors in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and then went to Auto Leasing by Elite Inc., of Closter, New Jersey. Its warranty book is dated April 3, 1987.

The Champagne leather interior presents as-new, with factory-installed clear protective plastic still protecting the carpeting from being soiled and worn.

This car is fitted with a limited slip differential, a power sunroof, factory air conditioning, a center console, electric windows, eight-way power seats, a leather steering wheel with a raised hub, a high-end Blaupunkt stereo entertainment system, left- and right-hand electrically adjustable and heated outside mirrors, a rear window wiper, and fog lamps, as well as competition valve stem supports, wheel security locks, and anodized Fuchs forged “Windmill” alloy wheels, which are seven inches wide in the front, nine inches wide in the rear, and are all fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Plus tires.

It is supplied with a set of factory-accessory floor mats, a complete and original tool kit, and an air compressor for its collapsible spare tire and wheel. The car includes its original and correct manuals, warranty book, and keys, and it even comes with a touch-up paint stick.

Now how much would you pay? First, let’s look at the general market for 930 Turbos.

Now let’s look at this 1987 Porsche 930 Turbo Coupe’s sales history. In 2015, RM Sotheby’s sold this car (WP0JB0935HS050582) with 958 fewer miles on the clock at Amelia Island, Florida.
