1994 Ferrari 348 Spider – Yellow Is The New Red

Given Ferrari’s tradition of Rosso Corsa race cars, it’s no surprise Enzo’s customers clamored for “race car red” road cars. That was then, this is now. Gone are the days when red reigns supreme. Ferraris leaving the factory gates wearing Giallo Modena – Modena Yellow – are the new symbol of individuality and prestige. We’re now at the point where a Ferrari with a factory yellow paint job is worth ten percent more than the same car in red. Check out this 1994 Ferrari 348 Spider listed on Bring a Trailer.

The 348 was the last V8-powered car developed under Enzo Ferrari’s direction (produced posthumously). It was also Pininfarina chief stylist Leonardo Fioravanti’s final masterpiece. Introduced in 1992, the Spider sports a manual-retractable black convertible soft top, boot cover, pop-up headlights, fog lights, side air intakes, louvered tail lights, and quad exhaust tips. The cabin houses two seats upholstered in Nero Connolly leather with a color-coordinated dashboard, center console and door panels. Equipment includes a dogleg-pattern gated shifter, air conditioning, and power windows and door locks.

Powered by a 3.4-liter quad-cam Tipo F119 V8 engine, equipped with Bosch Motronic engine management, the Spider was factory rated at 312 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. The engine sends power to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential.

From 1989 to 1995, the Italian automaker produced 8,844 348’s. Of those, 1090 were Spiders (68 right-hand-drive). Roughly 85 percent were painted red. Which means no more than 160 Giallo Modena 348 Spiders sold worldwide arrived at the dealership in Giallo Modena. Not only is a yellow Ferrari 348 Spider a rare car generally, the BAT example is a single-owner vehicle with just 8k miles on the cloak.

The rising popularity of Giallo Modena Ferraris signals a shift in the collector’s market, as enthusiasts embrace unconventional and unique vehicles. With its striking color, meticulous maintenance (the seller notes seepage from the valve covers after a timing belt service in 2015) and limited production, this Ferrari 348 Spider offers collectors a unique opportunity to acquire an iconic Italian sports car in stunning Giallo Modena. I predict it will break the $100k mark, hammering somewhere between $109k to $119k.
