Rod Stewart Countach – Right Car, Wrong Venue!

When it comes to high-end automobiles, some have “soul.” Something that makes a particular automobile a special car among special cars. However you define it, Rod Stewart’s Lamborghini Countach had soul. Normally, these cars command a premium. And yet, when the car went on sale on Bring a Trailer (BAT)….

Rod’s whip hammered for just half a mil. It was a bad landing, wrong airport. Or, if you prefer, the Countach was the right car at the wrong venue. Here’s why….

Unfair Comparison!

Buyers on BAT can compare any given Countach to all the other Countaches sold on the platform. This can lead to unrealistic expectations and, thus, prices. Additionally, buyers on BAT often compare cars based on condition, mileage and other factors – excluding the car’s pedigree.

Check our Rod’s hot rod compared to previous BAT Lambo transactions below:

At the End of the Day….

BAT is a great way to reach a wide audience of potential car buyers. As I’ve explained above, that can be a feature or a bug. To avoid these issues, it’s better to sell a high-end, rare and unique car on a premium venue specializing in high-end, rare and unique cars OR through a private sale or auction.

Something is worth exactly what someone will pay for it. But if the wrong someone’s are looking at the something, if the right someone’s aren’t looking at the something, bad things can happen. Venditor cave! Seller beware!
