Specs of the 1987 Mercedes-Benz AMG Hammer:

Regenerate response

  1. Modern AMGs are powerful, sporting cars that outperform their regular production models.
  2. AMG was once a separate company staffed by ex-Mercedes engineers who built cars without interference from Mercedes management.
  3. In the 1980s, AMG was nimble enough to create whatever the customer wanted, often building vehicles costlier than a new Ferrari Testarossa, but faster.
  4. The 1987 W124 chassis 300 E was transformed from a stock luxury sedan to a potent Autobahn stormer for an additional $97,988.29.
  5. The car was built to Mr. Don Byerly’s specifications, who ordered it new directly from Richard Buxbaum, CEO of AMG North America at the time.
  6. The car was built by hand, and copies of the mechanics’ hourly time cards, including Hartmut Feyhl, are available for review.
  7. Ownership history is unknown after Don Byerly, but the car was later acquired by Jonathan Hodgeman of Blue Ridge Mercedes before being restored by the current owner.
  8. Hartmut Feyhl, the AMG mechanic who built the car originally, oversaw the recent restorative work completed by RENNtech and Ai design.
  9. This Hammer is one of only thirteen built in North America and one of less than 30 produced worldwide.
  10. With factory correspondence, original build sheet, and documentation, along with recent RENNtech service, this Hammer is one of the most well-documented examples available.
